XMPChat is currently in it's beta stage, there are many planned features like voice, server browsers, skins, and many more in progress. Please visit our downloads and download the current version of XMPChat to get started.

By The-Gizmo | December 25, 2007 - 1:39 PM EST - Comments (0)XMPChat 2.0 is aimed to be released for alpha testing in early January 2008, after new years. It will feature a number of new features compared to the current client, one of them is it's own scripting language (C/C++/D style, but mostly C) that will most likely replace the old plugin system on the current client, though native DLL plugins will be supported sometime in a later release.
After the new version is released, and is ready to completely replace the current version, the current version will be shut down. The current version will notify you when this is about to occur. The current version will still be up for a little while after the new version is released.
In the meantime we hope you have wonderful holidays and a great new year!
By The-Gizmo | April 18, 2007 - 2:05 AM EDT - Comments (0)A bug has been discovered in the current version of the XMPChat Client (the completely new re-worked version of XMP that hasn't been released yet will not be effected by any bugs in the current version). The bug effects the client's ability to launch non-directplay games only, which was discovered while adding support for Ghost Recon since it's not a directplay game. To get the update, simply connect to XMPChat as usual and auto-update should do everything for you.
Ghost Recon support currently uses the room moderator as the game host, which means that person will need to have the correct port open for Ghost Recon if they are behind a NAT router.
NOTE: During the update process of fixing the launch bug to get non-directplay games to launch correctly, there was a short-lived version of XMPChat that auto-update downloaded that included another bug which prevented you from sending anything after a short amount of time (chats, etc.) which has since been fixed. If you downloaded this version it is recommended you visit the downloads page and get a fresh copy of XMP.
By The-Gizmo | April 9, 2007 - 4:17 PM EDT - Comments (0)The next version of XMP is almost ready for beta testing, but meanwhile I've added support for the requested game "Clue: murder at boddy mansion" to the current version. If you don't already have XMPChat you'll need to visit the downloads page and download the client, but if you already have XMPChat, you do not need to download anything or update XMPChat to play, simply join the Clue lobby (from within the client) to play.
If you have any games you want supported, feel free to visit the forums and request it.
By The-Gizmo | December 1, 2006 - 7:39 PM EST - Comments (0)I'm getting close to beta testing the new version of XMPChat, it has pretty much been redesigned from the ground up, and completely recoded. Everything so far is going excellent, and a lot more efficiently than the previous version. It will support a bunch of new features like scripting, improved plugin support, and a new sleeker client interface.
One of the main features (which it is designed around) is being in multiple lobbies and rooms similtaniously. That means you can be in a lobby and a room in that lobby, or you can close the lobby and just be in the room, or you can join 5 lobbies and no rooms and vice versa, or whatever combination you can think of. This should satisfy anyone's taste in that manner.
After the first beta tests of the new service are complete, other features are planned including voice, game server browsing (for Quake style games), and skins. The new version is also designed with multiple platform support in mind, so expect Windows x64, linux, and other ports soon after.
By The-Gizmo | October 24, 2006 - 10:01 PM EDT - Comments (0)Version 0.3.0 of XMPChat will be released soon and will feature a load of changes and new features. A lot of things will be different in the new version. In fact, it's so different the existing client will not be able to auto-update when the service is upgraded, so you'll have to manually download a new copy from this site.
One of the main features of the upgraded service will be the ability to join many lobbies and rooms similtaniously. The maximum limit the service will allow has not been determined, but standard user accounts will be limited to one lobby and one room similtaniously. Of course, you won't be able to participate in more than one room's game at a time to prevent confusion. Other features include a new network protocol, new client GUI, and more.
Check back soon for more updates.
By The-Gizmo | September 3, 2006 - 10:10 PM EDT - Comments (0)I've added support for the Sametime mode in Risk II, Classic is still supported as well. There are separate lobbies for eacy mode, so you'll need to join the correct lobby for the mode you wish to play. I'm also working on support for other game requests as well, so check back soon for more game support!
By The-Gizmo | June 15, 2006 - 8:34 AM EDT - Comments (1)You can now comment on news (I promise this time :). I was coming back to adding the comments, and forgot I never completed it. The Risk II page along with a few other things of the new design still need to be completed, though I'll probably add a Recent Update when those are finished instead of adding a complete news item here. Skins are coming to the next version of XMP (it's confirmed) along with needed features like being able to chat in the lobby and room at the same time. More info soon.
By The-Gizmo | May 31, 2006 - 9:01 PM EDT - Comments (0)The XMPChat website has a new look as you may have noticed. It is just about completed, but a few things here and there still need to be finished. One of the main features this new design enables is skin support, in the future you'll be able to choose from a bunch of different skins and that skin will appear each time you visit the site (if you stay logged in). The skin you see right now will be the default. If you see any bugs with the new design login (via the login area to the right) to the site and comment on this news.
By The-Gizmo | May 2, 2006 - 7:01 AM EDT - Comments (0)The next BETA version of XMPChat will include a lot of visual enhancements, like room tooltips (when you hover over it), room status icons (room is launched, chatting, locked, etc.), and other fixes and new features. Support for skins in XMPChat is also a possibility in the new version when it's released.
I do not have a release date at this time, but you can keep yourself up to date with the progress of it here.
By The-Gizmo | April 6, 2006 - 12:56 AM EDT - Comments (0)The XMPChat service has been updated to 0.2.7. I haven't added an installer for this version yet as I'm writing this, so you'll have to download the zip archive for now and unzip to your XMPChat directory ("C:\Program Files\XMPChat" if you used the 0.2.6 installer). I've had a problem with the auto-updater not copying and restarting XMPChat, then on another computer system, it's had no problem. So if you have this problem, download the new version from the downloads page.
